Romano is rated 4.6 out of 5 stars, based on 115 reviews!
First time here. I had read a lot of the reviews and they for the most part say the pizza isnt good. So made me sceptical. My friend would rave about the Arancinis and wow they are definitely good. I had the meat one and I also tried the spinach one. Too much deliciousness. Very filling and tasty. Definitely recommend them.
Outstanding food and service. Tastes like my grandmother's food. WOW!!!
The best Arancini anywhere!!
You can't find a better pizza always hot good sandwiches the price is an excellent addition you can't find a better bargain the staff is wonderful very welcoming but bring cash Romano's doesn't take credit cards
Since the current owner took over, this restaurant has exploded with flavor. They kept traditional Italian recipes which in most places DO NOT have . The arancini and the panzarotti is still at the top of the charts...ANYWHERE!!! One of the big changes is their traditional "Sicilian pizza", look for it at the counter...VERY authentic the wanted the sausage with green pepper. The green peppers are roaster and seasoned with spices to perfection, the Italian sausage sandwich I had they 3rd me they sausage came from an old fashioned butcher...simply put, this place is the best Italian food around...at the lowest price!!! What more can anyone ask for...Mangia Mangia.... don't forget it's CASH ONLY
EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND
With food as good as Marie's (and way better than Debra's) how can you go wrong?
Previously I threw some shade at Romano's for being a cash-only establishment. I've grown a lot since then. I've come to realize that some of the best places around don't accept plastic for a variety of reasons, and such is life.
Like Johnnie's in Elmwood Park, these fellas also serve up a pretty convincing i-beef sandwich (although perhaps not *quite* as good). They had a lunch special going on when I stopped in: $5 got you an italian beef with chips & a drink, which was an awesome deal.
Their sweet peppers were particularly good, although the giardineria was nothing special. The chips + drink were of the packaged kind but I was able to find the elusive wild cherry Pepsi in can form, which was decent.
Romano's had some pizza that looked great and plenty of other home-cooked items on the menu. Next time I'll be sure to try a calzone or meatball sandwich. I'm confident that those will be as tasty as their i-beef. Recommended!
We came by here after just trying another pizza place to compare. I love how thin the crust is. Other places promote the thin crust and its not even thin but Romano actually stands by it. There wasn't too much sauce and just the right amount of cheese. The sausage pieces were also really really good. WIll definitely be back soon.
You can get a nice size lunch for less than five dollars!
The Arancini, pizza slices, Panzarotti, and variety of focaccia always satisfy our carb cravings! Each item is only $2-3!
The one con is that they don't except credit cards... cash only.
minestrone and chicken soup are great for $2.00 very tasty and filling also had pizza sat night one with sausage one with roast beef on it very good and thety dont skimp on ingredients
This little gem is the Italian Version of Gene & Jude's of River Grove, IL. Simple Menu; Arancini Balls, Italian Ice and a few sandwiches not to mention the prices and quality are most excellent. I have never been disappointed in this place.
Great Panzerotti! My only wish is that they come to the customer fresh from the fryer and not from the back where they are being microwaved then served! It may be faster but lacks in quality just a bit. Same deal with the arancini. When they first opened up the food was 5* AWSOME. We clearly saw it being cooked right before our eyes and served fresh right from the fryer and not the hidden microwave in the back! Hope the owner sees this and goes back to the original deal otherwise it's a shame. (The food has the potential to be authentic & known for it's FRESHNESS) which is very important to the people especially the Italians who can tell the difference! Eat up my friends!
BEST Panzerotti and Arancini and Super Value. I am 100% Italian and cook the old fashioned way, everything from scratch. Making really good arancini or as we call them in Rome, suppli al telfono, is a day long affair. Very labor intensive. Now that I found Romano I can assure you I will not be making them at home. Plus I cannot make them for $1. They are so filling you only need one so this is a true value meal. The panzerotti are cooked fresh and very tasty as well. My personal favorite is a Barese which is only $3 but the others are $2. All the arancinis are good but my personal favorite is still the meat and peas. The mango Italian ice is a nice twist on an old favorite. My kids love the chocolate canolis too. I do not think the prices will last long. Maybe these are construction prices because my only complaint is that the place is still under construction. I cannot tell too many of my fancy foodie friends because I know they will be turned off by the mess.
This restaurant is simply amazing. The service is pretty good, and the food is even better. It's probably the best Italian restaurant in the area, and the best thing is that it's not expensive. The italian ice is also spectacular.
They make only a few things, and they make all those things very well! And as mentioned ad nauseam, their prices just can't be beat. I've been going in there since about a month after they opened and have seen them try quite a variety of layouts for the interior...I think the current one works pretty well! It really is hard to think of a complaint about this place. I've noticed quite a few new businesses in FP on Grand...nice to see it coming alive with Romano leading the way!
Yummy Good food! Can't beat the prices! They even have a new store across the street now.
Great prices and probably the best panzarotto I can remember having! You can have a feast for under $10! A pregnant woman's dream!
We're a bunch of Italians from the old neighborhood. My pal's wife suggested we give this place a whirl so..... what the hell......we stopped in.
They make kick ass Arancini and Panzarotti. The Italian Beef is good but needs to be bigger and placed on good Gonnella bread with sweet peppers or Giardinera.
Very good meatball sandwiches but again.........needs to be placed on Gonnella bread.
After all is said and done you really can't bitch. Four of us ate for $8.00.
We thought the girl at the register made an error but $8.00 was the actual cost.
We met the owner who was sweeping up the parking lot.
This guy is a good looking Italian. He claims to be the helper. What a blast it is when you get to know him. He exudes classic sarcasm. If you're tight assed you may get offended but loosen up. He's just being a personable guy seeking information about the food he serves and what he can do to make it better.
WE GO THERE AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK.
THE OWNER, EMPLOYEES and FOOD WILL DELIGHTFULLY SURPRISE YOU.
this place is overflowing with italian people. i was propelled through the door on a river of italian expatriates with 5 dollars in my pocket, looking for some lunch. initially i washed up against a knot of old ladies arguing in italian while i looked over the menu, further down the line i scored an outrageous array of little lunch things like a small insulata caprese, an arancini (rice ball), and a cannoli, and after a rapid money swap i was propelled back out the side door by a group of italian teenagers frolicking away with slices of pizza. i stood, dazed, in what appeared to be a street cafe. small tables were surrounded by people drinking espresso and murmuring happily in broken english. bag of food in one hand, 2 dollars in the other, i felt like a shoplifter. gathering my wits, i bolted for my van to see what sort of lunch could possibly cost 3 dollars.
the caprese salad was modest in size but the tomatoes were *ripe* and the mozzarella fresh. the rice ball was golden and crispy and melted in my mouth like butter. the cannoli was sweetly creamy, and gone in 30 seconds.
i'm a fool to be telling you all this, since you'll probably just be jammed in my way between me and the panzarotti of my dreams next time i'm there.
Good food and great prices. Sometime they get a little backed up and it can be a short wait. They recently put in a pole in order to facilitate a more organized order line. All there food is good, I recently tried their pizza which was greasy and delicious!
Great family stop. Franklin park needs more places like this.
Simply Awesome !!!!! The food and the prices are Great !!! More places should model this place.... I recommend !! Try It
I am moving out of the area and I have to say I will be missing this place most of all. The food is great and the prices are even better. I have had almost every sandwich on the menu. Most of them are only 3$ w/chips and soda. I crave their meatball sandwiches daily and I look forward to the weekends for their usual pizza special a 18 inch 2 topping pizza for only 10$. Also don't miss out on their arancini i could eat those little balls of heaven all day and night. I will be making the 30 mile drive for them I'm sure. This place might be in a old Arby's but do not be discouraged it is just down right awesome Italian food for working people.
Best real Italian fast food. They have really good prices too! I get panzeratto's & arancini's. Their meatball sandwich and beefs are good too. They usually have a $3 daily special. Our family can eat here for under $15 and be stuffed.
Outstanding. Simple, clean, cheap, and tasty. Someone recommended to me to go out of my way to try this place so I did. And it was well worth it. Just a few things on the menu (Beef, Salad, Panzarotti, Arancini), with each of them tasting superb. I now recommend to you, go out of your way to try this gem and put it on the lunch day rotation!!!
One of the best things that happen to Franklin Park, the food is awesome and the help is great, Tony and his wife are always so nice and polite, keep good work and my family will always be a customer.
KG Franklin Park
When I first walked in this place, it was a Wednesday afternoon during lunchtime and it was JUMPING. Seemed like a good sign to me. Then after glancing over their menu, it is clear to see why this place attracts so much business. Their prices are ridiculous! And I mean that in a GOOD way :) $1.00 for an Arancini - $2.00 for a Panzerotto?? So much yummy food for so little. The food was delish, the service was - eh, okay. I can't complain, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't exceptional or anything either. I mean, come on, its a fast food joint, what do you expect? My new favorite work lunch spot!
This is THE place to get an assortment of arancini and panzerotti. The food is great and since many places in the city of Chicago don't make arancini well, this place is a MUST TRY. The price is also amazing for all of their items. If you know what good arancini taste like, especially AL BURRO, then you must try them here. The place is fast food like so don't expect a sit-down and romantic atmosphere.
Really loved this place. Tried it yesterday and was pleasantly suprised. They have the $3 daily special which includes a sandwich, chips, and a drink?! WOW!! You can't find a deal like that anywhere. Lunch for 3 bucks..?? I will take it! I am definitely going to be a regular here from now on. I wouldn't mind coming here every day!! Also they have a special for a slice of pizza for $2 bucks with a pop. You just can't beat those prices. Check it out you won't be disappointed.
Always packed...because this place is just awesome! Simple menu and great prices! Someone in my family eats here at least once a week...sometimes more! Also did a fantastic job catering my nephews first birthday party. Fantastic people fantastic food!
Everything here is great, but especially the meatball sandwich & really inexpensive.
A friend recommended this place. I had a sausage panzeratto for $3. It was pretty pretty pretty good. The reviews are right. The prices are ridiculously cheap. Today's special was italian sausage sandwich, chips and drink for $3. Cheesecake and canoli $2. Dinner salad, crab salad or tomato and mozarella salad for $3. Cute little atmosphere. Huge TV on top of a huge fish tank. Part of the ceiling has the solar system projected on it. They have a patio. I noticed Romano Foods across the street. The restaurant had 2 shelves up front with different food products for sale, I'm guessing from across the street. I would definitely go back.
Best thing that happened to Franklin Park by far. I have been here 10 years and there is not much to choose from in terms of good restaurants. The food is always fresh and the panzerottis are the best around!
This is one of our top family go to places. Their food is the real italian american deal. It's a Nonna type sauce! The meatball is our fave and the arancini is great. Love their grocery offerings. Always great prices! Always buzzing!!
I've been a fan of this place after trying the arancini with peas, but the pizza is really good too. I just had a very satisfying slice
The spinach ricotta arancini is one of the greatest things I have ever eaten. Their pizza is dull, but everything's very cheap so there's not much room to complain. And how could you when your mouth is stuffed full of that spinach ricotta arancini? Seriously, so good.
this place is a total dive! With amazing food! The menu is very limited, but everything was great! The meatball sanwich ($3) is quite large and very yummy! Don't pass on the Italian Ice ($1), it's homemade, I recommend the lemon!
Nothing on the menu is over $3, yes, I said $3. The Arrincinni at $1.25 is a deal and they have three different kind. Dessert? Canoli or Traimisu, yes under $3! Italian beef sandwich ($3)!! Four of us ate for $20
If you are in Franklin Park and want some good food at CHEAP prices, this dive has what you are looking for! Husband and wife operate the place. This is the real deal when it comes to authentic Italian food at CHEAP prices!
I've been back many times and it's always hot and fresh, The food really is good and the prices can't be beat...This place is going to take Franklin park if the don't change anything...I mean it blows all the others away...I have an idea for them too, offer a Italian beef and hot pepper ponzarotti !!! Fresh mozzarella, Italian Beef, hot peppers, deep fried in fresh bread, Im tellin' ya it would be a winner..
.I LOVE THIS PLACE !!!
Good, clean, cheap. They only have a few things on the menu, but it's all good. Italian beef was great, I just wish they had sweet peppers. Their meatball sandwich is really good. Both are on good quality bread that is a little crispy but soft. They also have an eggplant sandwich that's probably on the same bread.
I really come here for the arancini. They have 3 kinds and they are fantastic. At less than $2. Each, try them all. They are traditional, one with rice, peas, another with ham and a third with ricotta & spinach.
Their panzerottis are really good too. They have3 kinds. Besides that, they have desserts like canoli, tirimisu and maybe gelato. I don't have a sweet tooth so didn't pay attention. I'm probably missing a few things buy I got my point across. Good, clean & cheap.
Good food great prices! We tend to have to finish off our pizzas in the oven to crisp the bottom but for $8-$10 for a 2 topping large I'm not complaining. Love the al burro arancini and the Nutella panzerotti!
The food is very tasty and super cheap come on a slice of pizza and a can of soda for two bucks! Really? Where else and it's also really good i also love their arancini, italian beef. All the food is very tasty. They also have a pretty big outdoor sitting when the weather is nice They only take cash so make sure you have some on you. There is an ATM onsite, but if you're like me that hates ATM fees bring some cash.
Great, authentic Italian fare at ridiculously cheap prices.
One of a handful of good restaurants in Franklin Park.
If you haven't been yet, you gotta check em out.
I whole-heartedly agree w/ Dorotka K! Romano Brands is a gem. I was so happy that they offered vegetarian versions of the panzerotti & arancini.
My spinach & ricotta arancino was delicious. My husband really enjoyed his ham & alfredo arancino. We both really enjoyed the panzerotti baresi w/ a light tomato sauce & fresh mozarella. Everything was super fresh, cooked to order, very satisfying and piping hot! And incredibly, astoundingly inexpensive! Our order of 3 arancini, 2 panzerotti and a soda totalled only $9.00! This is the BEST deal in Chicagoland!!!
I hope every foodie in Chicago discovers this place so that it is successful. It is well worth the trip out to Franklin Park. The the next time I drop by for some mouth-watering Italian "fast food," I will be happy to see a line out the door of adoring customers.
I want to see you again...soon...
So Tasty...yet such value
I am in love...with Romano...
Amazing food. Cheap, authentic Italian! I go whenever possible. Pizza is thin. Sauce & cheese are quality without the price. Salads are delicious good size & only $3.50! Have to pay w cash tho. No biggie.
What a smart way to open a business. Buy an old Arby's location off Grand Ave, renovate it to look nice, add a patio with chairs, put together a small menu and sell your food at ridiculously low prices.
Romano's showed up in Franklin Park out of the blue. The Arby's building stood vacant and ugly for a while, then I noticed some people looking at it and finally, Romano's sign came up. Almost overnight the restaurant opened and attracted a mass of people. And thank goodness for that, because Franklin Park surely needs business.
Romano's is quickly becoming the Gene & Jude's of Franklin Park, but with good food. They have just a handful of regularly prepared items plus a daily special. This allows them to make their food super fresh and you can taste the difference. Be prepared to wait a while for your food, though.
They now sell cannoli's, which are only $1.25. Last Tuesday, the hubby and I got two Italian beefs with drinks, a slice of pizza and two cannolis and this outing set us back $8.75. For two people. $8.75. Seriously.
You have got to join the crowd and give this place a try. You will like it.
This place is simply amazing! If your looking for fries, deep fried frozen foods, and danky overpriced sandwiches, then head elsewhere because this place is the real deal! Romano is a true fast Italian dive without the snotty waiters and over zealous owners. Everyone here seems to be on the ball (and by the heavy accents, Italian). Your food will always be warm, and most importantly CHEAP!
Here's what I ordered for my family and I(no lie): 1 Italian beef, 1 Chicken Parmigiano sandwich, 3 slices of (awesomely good) pizza, 2 Cannoli, 2 Panzarotti (real Italian pizza puffs), 2 Italian ices, and 1 arancini (huge rice ball filled with peas meat and mozzarella), all for $20! Really! All the sandwiches including the beefs are only $3 and you wont get a half-assed sandwich like you do at Johnny's.
You can't lose. The food is great, inexpensive, authentic, and the folks here are great. I even caught the owner serving Italian ice to people out of an ice cream cart sitting out by the door while everyone else cooked to speed up service. If your driving threw Franklin Park, do not miss this place! Its damn good! It's as simple as that! Since this place is gaining popularity, you might have to wait a bit for your food but it's well worth it and your wallet will thank you.
Love this place!! Have only been once but I am a huge fan! I went at 1:00pm on a Tuesday and they were busy. I had the daily special: Italian Sausage, chips and can of soda for $3.00. I also walked away with 2 desserts because I could not decided: Limoncello Cake and NUTELLA PANZAROTTO!!!!
Go to this place ASAP, You will love it!!!!!
The best beef sandwich in Cook country. The place is small and has some seating. The only thing I didn't like is that you have to pay by cash. There need to be more authentic italian places such as this for people to enjoy a nice lunch. The pizza looks excellent as well.
Don't know how long this special will last, but $3 for a solid beef sandwich, chips and a pop is a great deal.
They have similar deals for their eggplant parmigiana and pizza.
To add to it, the place is pretty charming with pannetoni and other Italian specialties for retail sale around the place.
I'll be coming back to try more.
Wondering why the hell it took me so long to eat here.?!?! The food here is good. And its not like no one told me about it.Word of mouth travels fast.I have nobody to blame but myself for not coming in sooner. The prices are waaaay cheap.I could totally get used to spending under $10 for my meals and still walk out full. Will be back!!
Great value for good Italian fast food.
I was introduced to the amazing food at Romano's about 2 months ago. The panzerrotti & arancini is just incredible, and there's no way to beat the price. I brought my kids out from Aurora this past weekend, now they're hooked too, so you guys will be seeing us a treatment n in weeks to come. Absolutely outstanding food, we'll worth a drive.
I loved this place. Had a meat and pea arancini and meatball sandwich. This unassuming meatball sandwich is the BEST one I've had in a long time. Everything is really affordable so you can go back and try new things without breaking the bank.
It's Italian fast food....so don't expect fancy shmancy-ness. The Panzerottos are amazing here! And ONLY $2 each! They ARE made fresh, actually you can see them preparing the food right behind the counter. The menu is small and I believe everything is done well.
As far as the service, there is nothing to rave about and nothing to complain about. It's pretty neutral here. I usually don't have insightful conversations with the staff anywhere. I just politely order and say thank you with a smile. Have had no problem here in the year I've been coming.
Of course the food is a lil greasy! IT'S FAST FOOD! & MOZZARELLA IS INVOLVED! But it's a good greasy to me.
Also the Italian ice is SOLID!
I'm so lucky to have a job where I could walk to this place. We have been having lunch here every other week because I could not stay away too long from their Arancini - Fried rice ball.
My usual lunch is a spinach Arancini ($1.25), a caprese salad ($2), and an Italian ice($1). I also loved Panzarotti ($2) which is a large dumpling filled with cheese and tomato. Arancini and Panzarotti come with meat filling as well. There are pizza slices and sandwiches too which my co-workers liked. Just super cheap wonderful Italian fast food.
This place is clean with 8-9 inside sitting tables and 5 small tables outside. You order at the counter and are called by the number on your slip. The food come out very fast. We could usually spend less than half hour for the lunch.
The girl at the register was very nice. But another man (who I thought was the owner) reminded me of Soup Nazi or the guy at Johny's on North ave. He didn't have much patience for the first time comers like me. How could I know what I wanted when I walked in there the first time? plus I'm an Asian who could not even pronounce half of the menu there.
Highly recommend this place if you are in the area and want some Italian food.
They have the best Arancini balls, very generous with the meat and the prices are very reasonable!
Legit family owned.. Not just a gimmick. Nothing on the menu over $3.00.. Ya I said $3.00.. 300 cents.. Lunch for 300 cents?? No one can beat that..
We didn't know what to expect but my Italian sub had capricola, prosciutto, mortadella anddd ham. They're premade but made daily and honestly it's 3$. What's there to complain about??
Dad almost got 2 fish salads but since we were aft the lunch rush, there was only 1 left haha
They replaced his second order of fish salad with a caprese salad and a dollar (price difference)
We drank fountain lemonade andd finished with the summer special of having the italian ice lady right inside the store!
Beware of her watermelon flavored one though.. It's way too pink in my opinion to be anything real
They have the best panzerottis! They are light and the flavor is great!! And you can't beat the prices!!!
The best quality italian food around!!! .
Nice and clean restaurant friendly environment, everything they serve is what I've expected, actually exceed my expectations, I love italian food and I am very picky choosing a restaurant, and ROMANO is without one of the best overall italian food I've ever tasted. Prices are very descent.
I kinda want to go here every day! It's quick, cheap, authentic Italian fare. They also do espresso drinks and gelato for $1. It's simple food but packed with plenty of flavor.
On my next visit, I plan on getting some of that Nutella gelato!
This review is nice and simple..
This place is SO affordable and the food is AMAZING! See real easy. Haha
But really, you can't go wrong with anything here! The eggplant parmesan, aaranchini, panzerotti, just EVERYTHING! I grew up being lucky enough to have homemade panzerotti's and these are pretty close (just missing capers.) In all, if you have 6$ and don't know what to eat, come here and fill up!
Also very much enjoy the car shows and how they fixed the area up! The put up nice bright safe lights around the reasutrant and a nice seating area.
Okay, I understand the novelty here and have to rescind prior statements after sampling more of the menu. I now get why this place is the biggest Italian hit since Rocky I, II, III, and IV. Before I thought it was more like Rocky V.
I would advise one to skip the cold Italian subs. They're tragic and unfortunate. They should call it Mussolini. Then I sampled much better options like the meatball sub, eggplant parmesan, and the aranchini. Anything with their delicious sauce. Because their sauce is boss. Call it that Tony Danza. The bread they use for their sandwiches is no joke either. Don't call it Ray Romano.
I love to come here for lunch because I never spend over $4. I feel like I'm robbing the place. Call me John Dillinger. Oops, he wasn't Italian. Ex'Cusi! I try not to eat here too much now, because then I'll start breathing like James Gandolfini. But it's tough to resist when they constantly knock it out of the park. Joe DiMaggio? Better believe it.
Since I only get a 30 minute lunch break, I appreciate how fast they are.
And I still can't believe this used to be an Arby's. This place now has style.
Gucci. Versace. Dolce & Gabanna. Armani.
All these stereotypes have exhausted me. As if I've participated in 17 FIFA World Cups.
I read all the bad reviews about the place and let me start by saying they are all WRONG! I started coming here about a month ago and I love it! People say the girls are rude and the food isnt good.... i have not once experienced any rudeness. Granted they dont go out of the way to be super friendly... They dont have to! They simply have to take your order and thats if. They are always polite when i come in. The other great plus is the prices! I got a whole meal plus dessert for like $9!!!! Try the chicken parm and the spinach/ricotta arincini!
$3 special for an Italian beef with a bag of chips & drink when I went on a Tuesday. Awesome price fo' sho, and thankfully, the Italian beef was delicious. It could've used more meat, but at that price, I can't complain. The bread was chewy & fresh, and the meat wasn't bland nor dry.
I've also tried the arancini al burro ($1.25) and the sausage panzerotti ($2).
Arancini al burro - 3.5 stars. I enjoyed this, but I realistically, I don't see myself ordering it again. I'd rather try another item of their menu. Flavorful rice ball filled with cheese and a few small ham cubes (less than 5 pieces).
Sausage panzerotti - 4 stars. It wasn't a heavy or overly rich food item, and the bread was light & chewy with a very slight crisp on the outside. The sausage pieces were small. I could taste the fennel, but tastewise, the sausage wasn't remarkable. The mozz was gooey and stretchy, perfect, and it was paired with chunks of marinara. I really enjoyed this item, and I can see myself trying more of their panzerottis. I'm already eye-ing their nutella panzerotti haha.
Right now, it's a 4.5 stars for me because of the fresh food, excellent prices, and fast service. Great lunch option, and I expect to be back. Maybe with more visits, the rating will bump up to 5 stars xD
EDIT - I went back on a Friday, and the special offered was an eggplant parm with chips & drink for $3.50. They also had an 18" 2-topping pizza offered at $10, same as when I had gone on a Tuesday. I was feeling the meatball sandwich ($3) and chicken parm sandwich ($3) though, so I went with those options. I wanted to try their cannoli too, but they were out. Being a fan of nutella anything, I ordered their nutella panzerotti ($2.50).
Meatball sandwich - 5 stars. Umami from first to last bite. Perfect as it is. Their bread did an awesome job showcasing the moist meatballs and marinara sauce. Crusty where the bread would crackle a bit with each bite, but with a soft chewiness from how fresh it was. Way better than Alpine Sub Shop's bread. Also, at this price, c'mon lol. Easy 5.
Chicken parm - 5 stars. At 3 bucks, I was expecting a modestly-sized chicken piece, but man-oh-man. This one defiantly squaggled out of the boundaries of the bread. It was nicely breaded and sat happily upon a bed of melted cheese, doused in a healthy amount of marinara. The chicken wasn't dry, nor would it be labeled as a chicken byproduct patty (whew!). Delish.
Nutella panzerotti - 5 stars cuz I'm nuts about nutella (forgive me for the corniness haha). Share this with another person or you'll feel guilty as heck. I had taken a bite at a corner, hadn't bit into gooey hazelnutty goodness, took another bite, no-go, ripped it open along the seams (see photo), and was smacked in the face by this huge, deep pool of nutella. EGADS! Each bite was accompanied by nutella, and we still had 3 tbs of nutella leftover after we ran out of bread. If you like donuts, deep-fried desserts, and/or nutella, you must get this item lol.
5 stars from 2 happily fed bellies. Excellent value lunch option.
I mainly get the arancini and/or the panzerotti. Both are great. I have never had arancini before this place opened up. I always get the one with the ricotta and peas, (at least I believe it's peas. I haven't been here in a few weeks.)
I have yet to try the pizza, simply because Cochiaro's is closer to me for pizza. Otherwise, the arancini and panzerotti is great.
My favorite is their eggplant parm. They only have it on occasion, for $5 it includes chips and a drink. It has a little too much sauce but otherwise it's great.
As for the service? I don't understand the issue people have with it. Keep in mind, this isn't a sit down restaurant. You go to the counter, place your order, and then wait for your food. To me, the service is at par with any other establishment, from Cochiaro's a mile down Grand Ave, to Poor Boy a mile down the other way, to even McDonalds and White Castle. The cashier takes your order, that's all they have to do, so don't expect anything more from them. They do their jobs.
Very good food for a great price highly recommend this place great place to take the family for pizza , arrancini , panzerotti and all the other good stuff
Love this place. I go there once or twice a week passing thru for panzerotti. Their prices are so low it's ridiculous. There's always people in there and in the summer it's nice to sit outside and people watch at some of the strange locals. As far as the staff, the two guys that run the place are very nice to my daughter and I . The people leaving negative reviews regarding not being entertained by the staff needs to go to Hooters or something similar where the women get tips and want to flirt and entertain you and keep you company. I am half Italian. I can say that there are a lot of Italian people who go there and that's a good sign. They aren't slapping pizza sauce to make panzerotti like other places they are using authentic ingredients like tomatoes and fresh mozzarella like it should be. The place is clean and the food is good. I used to live in Franklin park and this place was a closed down Arby's when I lived there. Now that I moved out of the area, it's this gem and I always go there when I check on my father. If you like Nutella, try the Nutella panzerotti ...my daughter loves those.
great pizza, service was good, love the selection of different pizza, toppings, desserts salads, huge pizza I had, meat lovers, took 4 people to eat it. great for a party or football game.
BEST ARANCINI EVER!!! And the price is AMAZING!!! Also love their tilamisu & seafood salad.
Great food and cheap
Best arancini in chicago
Great price for great food.
Pizza and price is great, attitude is below average
Only tried the pizza so far, they have a lot of options on the menu. The pizza came out very good.
Happen to stop by on my way home and to my surprise everything they have looked fresh and home made. I tried their arinchini and pannzerroti and both were out of this world. Since then i have & tried just about everything they make from the salads to their pizzas. I cant think of a better place for home made food with great service.
Everything is very good.....
The best rice balls ever! Friendly, casual and inexpensive place to eat. True homecooking.
Great tasting food at a price that won't break the bank. Definitely the best place around. Small seating area so call ahead if you're in a big group!
Good, cheap Italian eats!
Great food fantastic pricing love coming here with the family
The pizza are AMAZING!!! And the italian ice are so good. Thank you.
Fantastic freshly made pizza.
It the best eggplant parmigiana sandwich great place great prices
I have been going to Romano's since it opened a couple years ago. My mother has been working for the owner before he even built the restaurant. It wasn't always a restaurant like it is now. Romano's has grown a lot throughout the years it has been open. The restaurant has changed owners but it has kept the traditional food. One of the many things that makes Romano's a good place to eat and hangout with family and friends is the great prices they sell the food. Having to pay less for good food is always a win. Romano's now has an outdoor hangout as well, and the service is always very polite and helpful. One time I had a very heavy day, and I decided to go to Romano's to just sit outdoors and eat my delicious soft pizza. It was very busy that day, the restaurant had lots of orders. Even though the service was a bit slow the waitresses were very nice and attentive.
The food is amazing. The prices are insanely cheap. This is a place you need to try if you haven't yet.
Best panzer ottimo and arancini in chicago
I was here not too long ago and was amazed with the panzerotti and arancini. The seafood salad is great too! I was conversing with what seemed like one of the owners and was pleased to know they use local butchers for their meats and their seafood in the seafood salad is fresh and hand cut on premises.
Great food, with really reasonable prices. Cash only. The Focaccia are really tasty and warmed up in the oven are a great snack. The eggplant parmigiana sandwich is also an amazingly good sandwich for the price. Highly recommended.
very good food and great prices
Stopped here on a whim since it was a short walk from our hotel. Great prices for authentic Italian food. Nothing fancy-pants here, more like delicious fair-style goodness. Prepare for cheese overload!
Tasty food with excellent inexpensive prices. I'll definitely be back.
So every once in awhile I decide to have a major food fest night where everything on a menu is fair game for me to eat and I don't feel guilty about the calories. Tonight was Romano and I ate everything that I've always wanted to try here: chicken parm sandwich ($3.75), pea and beef arancini ($1.75), spinach and ricotta arancini, x-large (18 inch) thin crust pizza with roast beef and giardinara and a nutella panzerotti ($3) for dessert. I know, you don't have to tell me that's a lot of food. I'm very well aware of this. But surprisingly all of that delicious food was only $30. Seriously. And the arancini is the size of my head!
I really liked the peas and beef arancini because it reminds me of a beef pot pie. The chicken parm was a simple sandwich but it had a good meat to bread ratio and again, it was like 3 bucks. The pizza was awesome and although I'm not a huge thin crust person, I'd eat this again. The tomatoes for the sauce tasted fresh and not that thick jar paste that you sometimes get. The roast beef was tender and the pizza itself wasn't greasy. And the nutella panzerotti is as good as it sounds. Even though by the time we got to it it kind of lost it's crispiness from the fryer. But a quick trip to the microwave softened the dough to the point where it almost tasted like a thick nutella crepe which is also a good thing in my book. I just can't get over how affordable this place is without sacrificing the quality of its food.
Tip: Their menu has changed and so did the prices so make sure to check out the new menu. Also. only cash here but they have an ATM inside.
This place is a trip.
The staff members are friendly and very entertaining to watch. The food itself is average but the prices cannot be beat. Their pizza is good for the money and their beef is good for the price. They have a wide selection of Italian foods and the place is themed very well.
Forget the reviews. Go there and see for yourself. You will not find a batter deal in Chicago. And the food is incomparable.
Definitely real Italian. Me and my fam go there all the time.. So delicious and were Italian.. We know real Italian good and this food is legit. If you go there and get pizza your stupid. Get the panzerrotes and arancini there delicious! Honestly I feel like slapping people who get pizza when they go there like are you f***** kidding me! Get the authentic food! You can get pizza anywhere else.. But hands down this place is so delicious 5 stars all the way(:
Pizza definitely outstanding crust done perfect. Owner is almost always there and takes great pride in his pizza very reasonably priced!

The only Very Authentic Italian food place that I know of . Cause every "italian" place is 100% Americanized. Just wish they had a bigger menu . They are not stingy with filling their panzerottis cause every place i been to is .Not much selection though ...5 stars.
Best panzerotti ad arancini around hands down, all of there good is good and is well priced, they 2 large out door patios and at night great atmosphere to relax and hang out
Recently did two catering events with them. Isabelle was very helpful from planning to execution to making right a mistake that was made during the first event. The price was great and the food was even better. Would be nice if the took credit or debit, but regardless I will return soon! Regarding the comment from Mr. Forster about putting the pizza spatula on the floor, that is not true. It LOOKS like that is what they are doing because of where the holder is, but maybe if you physically looked behind the counter you would see that it is just not true. Next time you make a comment, especially a negative review, be sure it is based on FACT.
Best deal on town....lunch or dinner can feed a family of 4 for under $25. Can't beat it, great food and great prices!
Artichinis and panzerottis are the most Italian authentic food you can get if yu decide to go to romanos, if your craving authentic italain this is the best place to be at, they have 2 big patios for parties, inside and outside sitting area, there catering is the best as well, there beef sandwiches with dealicous melted mozzarella to top it off with our homemade panzerottis and artichinis and Italian ice is the best I got with a side of maranara sauce, severs are nice, there not expected to do anything more than just there job, and its the best tasting food ive ever tasted, and the wait is also not to long, yu also have to understand we're not the only customers the waitresss have to serve so I choose to be more patient and we get our food every time no problem (: but if someone asked me were to eat, id have to say hands down romanos is 5 star authentic Italian restaurant so go and check it out for yourself, me personally I love the place and I'll be going back every time I'm in the neighborhood.
Tiny menu but the food is super fresh and authentic not to mention really really cheap. The guy running the place is literally the most friendly person in the world and talked us into sitting in their outdoor area which is fairly nice. I literally felt like I was eating at a real Italian family's house. I recommend the foccacia.
One of the few GREAT places to eat in Franklin Park. And the icing on the cake it's really affordable. Everything I have ever had was great.
Romano is good for anyone who wants great food on a budget. I was driving by on the way home from work and was hungry. I sometimes grab a snack off a fast food value menu to keep me until dinner. No longer. I found Romanos. I really thought there food would not be good looking at the prices. WAS I WRONG! This place is Great. I really like there Italian sausage. However I have never made a bad choice. There prices are like the 80s. The staff is nice and the owner is always there. If check please ever does a cheap eats special Romano would win hands down.
This place is a gem! First time eating there and i WILL be a regular its a small place , maybe 7 tables and seating outside when its nice out of course not RIGHT now lol there is a small menu, the girl at the register suggested the panzeratti so i got the cheese and my fianc got the sausage and we both got an arancini , one with spinach and ricotta and the other was meat and pea ALL
Of the food was amazing plus we ordered all of that plus two drinks and our bill was under $10. They have a special i will try next time, a slice of pizza and pop for $2.00 ... Where do you find deals like that? Yeah me either lol the panzeratti was $2.00 and a good size so dont let the prices fool you, its good portion sizes. We spoke with a police officer who was in there eating , he said he has never had a bad meal there and he goes there quite often ! He suggested the chicken parm , meatball sandwich , and the special . He informed us that the owner is from Italy; which i could tell from his gravy (sauce) that he knows what he is doing
This place was really good. I went there on a suggestion from my sister-in-law and I loved it. It was the kind of place I would never have stopped at on my own, but I'll definitely be going back.
I tried both flavors of the arancinis and they were delicious. My husband got the meatball sub and said it was really good.
The prices and the quality can't be beat. Can't wait to return to try something new.
Best cheap place in town . Chicken Parmesan, arrinchi , & Nutella panzerotti are my favorites. Food is awesome and the price is even better. Love sitting outside and enjoying the summer weather .
This is a great place to stop in and grab a quick dinner for the kids on the way home from work or even bring them to lunch.
Our house is a big soccer family so we are at games or practices all of the time. I like to stop by and order a dozen arincini's for the weekend to have in the fridge so that the kids can stick them in the microwave in stead of eating out.
Definitely a cute little place tucked away.
I love this place because of the food alone. I've never been disappointed coming here. The prices are great- $1.50 for an arancini? Yes, please!
The only thing that's left to be desired is the service. The girls they having work the cash register are never really that friendly and always seem to be confused. Oh well, still giving this place 4 stars because I absolutely love every item I've ever had on the menu.
Been going here since they first opened a few years ago. The food was awesome then and is still awesome today. The bread is fresh and soft. The sauce they use for the meatball and the chicken parm is very flavorful. Their pizza slices are good. The rice balls (Arancini) is really good.
Best part, the food wont break your wallet. I fed my family for under $12...thats awesome! How many places can you go and eat and be full for under $5 without it being a fastfood establishment? Not many. This place is consistently good.
Only problem is they dont take credit cards, but at these prices, you wont need it.
Absolutely love this place. The panzerottis and Italian sausage sandwiches are my go-tos. Seating can be a bit limited during the weekends, so be aware that you may need to get it to-go. They are extremely reasonably priced: a great option for college students looking to get a lot of food for a small price. Definitely worth a visit, you won't regret it!
I'm a sucker for a GOOD Italian panzerotti & I've tasted pretty great, authentic panzerotti's. I really like this place because sadly, restaurants that offer traditional panzerotti's are far and few between and yes! they have it here!! Best thing about Romano's? Owner is from Italy (always a plus when your eating Italian food) , food is pretty darn cheap & I mean cheap prices, good sampling of Italian specialties at a BARGAIN.
Yes you may walk in (formerly Arby's) and hear loud Italian dialects from old school natives and you won't know what the heck they are saying....they may even be talking about you, your appearance or your inability to correctly pronounce 'pon-zer-ot-ti'......thing is, their panzerotti's are GOOD. Not your 'American' version which typically involves using the same pizza dough for the panzerotti filled with pizza sauce & served the size of a football. NO. this is not traditional in Italy!!!!!!! They are fried, hand sized portions of light, airy dough filled simply with basil infused crushed plum tomatoes & mozzarella or fresh bocconcini. Price: $2.50. Yes, they are that cheap. The arancini's are tasty and filled with spinach & ricotta or ground meat w/peas...if you've never had one, you'll have to try it here for $1.50. If your in the mood for a Beef, it may not be as good as Johnny's in Elmwood Park, but its tender and flavorful for $3.50. I have not tried the pizza here and I don't need to because when I'm in the area, I just come for the panzerotti's!!! AND if you experience any rudeness from your order taker, just whisper 'vaffanculo' to them and walk away with your food :)
I usually don't go to cash only spots as I never actually have cash on hand. The rare moments that I do tho and I'm hungry I stop at here.
I love the cheese and tomato panzerotti and the spinach and ricotta arancini. Those two things are absolutely amazeballs. Always always go for them!!!
I've tried the pizza slices (meh). The soup every once in a while if it's one I want to eat. I've tried the salad and the eggplant parm sandwich was pretty good, but my favorites are still the arancini and panzerotti.
This place is so cheap you could probably buy the whole menu and still not be broke.
My meal is usually about $4 and I'm always satisfied after leaving.
Oh yea the tiramisu isn't too bad either. I've had it once or twice. This place is one of the busiest places in FP and it's usually full of Italians so that should tell you it's good stuff.
